Eddie Rodriguez - Democrat (Incumbent)


Eddie was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2014 to his seventh term as the Representative from District 51, serving East Austin and Southeast Travis County.

Eddie vice chairs the House Committee on Environmental Regulation. He also serves on the House Committees on Economic & Small Business Development and Calendars. He is founder and House Chair of the Texas Farm-to-Table Caucus, Vice Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus and an active member of the House Democratic Caucus and the Legislative Study Group.

Eddie was born in Rio Grande Valley, where he graduated from McAllen Memorial High School. He studied at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in government. He earned his law degree in 2008 from The University of Texas School of Law. Prior to his election, he served as chief of staff to Representative Glen Maxey and as the executive director of the Travis County Democratic Party.

In his free time, Eddie enjoys spending time with his wife Christine, son Jack and daughter Sophie. He is an avid runner and foodie and can often be seen on the trail or at local farm-to-table restaurants.
