John Zerwas - Republican (Incumbent)
A respected physician and leader on healthcare policy, John Zerwas has practiced Anesthesiology in Fort Bend County for more than 30 years.
A conservative Republican, Zerwas has consistently fought to secure the border and use his background as a physician to fight Obamacare and protect patient’s rights.
Last session he worked to pass $4 billion in business and property tax cuts, provide an additional $1.5 billion in funding for public education, pass a state budget that left a surplus of $11 billion in the state’s Rainy Day Fund for future emergencies, and pass legislation to protect Pastors who refuse to perform same-sex marriages.
Guided by his deep faith, Zerwas has fought to defend pro-life and pro-family values. He supported legislation to defund Planned Parenthood and has been endorsed for re-election by the Texas Alliance for Life. He also supports the 2nd Amendment and has been “A” rated and endorsed by the NRA in past elections.
At the local level, Zerwas fought to bring a University of Houston campus to Katy and led efforts to bring a Texas State Technical Institute campus to Fort Bend County.
For his leadership, Zerwas has been endorsed for re-election by dozens of local elected officials and has been recognized as one of the “Ten Best Legislators” by Texas Monthly magazine on two separate occasions.
John was married to his high school sweetheart, Cindy, for 35 years before she passed away. He recently married Sylvia Haist and they enjoy spending their free time with their children and grandchildren. John and Sylvia live in Richmond.
