Greg Bonnen - Republican (Incumbent)
Dr. Bonnen has resided in Galveston County for more than twenty years since attending UTMB in 1988. After finishing his medical education with high honors, Bonnen completed his residency in neurosurgery and served as assistant professor at UTMB before founding the Texas Brain and Spine Center. He also practices at Memorial Hermann Southeast. Dr. Bonnen has served over 13,000 patients in the Gulf Coast area and beyond.
In 2003, Dr. Bonnen and his partners founded Houston Physician’s Hospital and began treating patients there in mid-2005. He has served as chairman of the board since 2006. Today, the Hospital provides a variety of acute and specialty care to communities throughout Southeast Texas and employs over 170 area residents. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Heritage Bank.
Dr. Bonnen grew up in Angleton and is the son of Matina and David Bonnen. He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. During college, Bonnen spent two summers working as a counselor at Texas Lion’s Camp for handicapped children, which he credits with introducing him to both his profession as a doctor and his wife, Kim. He has continued to devote time to his church and different charitable organizations including 13 missions with Builders without Borders of Texas and the Medical Strategic Network, a faith-based organization. Dr. Bonnen and his family have provided medical care and assisted with building schools and homes in Mexico and Panama. Dr. Bonnen has also volunteered his time, service, and talent with missions in Haiti, Cuba and the Philippines. He serves on the board and is treasurer of the Medical Strategic Network.
A lifelong Republican, Dr. Bonnen has supported Governor Rick Perry, Congressman Pete Olson, State Representative Larry Taylor, State Representative John Davis, and several other Republican candidates and officeholders.
Dr. Bonnen and his wife, Kim, live in Friendswood and have two daughters, Lindsay (17) and Janae (15) who both attend Friendswood High School. They are active members of Friendswood Community Church.
