Ben Rose

Ben Rose - Democrat

4th generation Houstonian and founding attorney of Harwood Rose, PLLC, Benjamin Harwood Rose, has declared he is running for State Representative of District 134 in the upcoming November 2016 election. Rose, a Democrat, will be running to represent the district which includes West University, Meyerland, Bellaire, Southhampton, River Oaks, Greenway, parts of Montrose and Tanglewood, and other treasured Houston neighborhoods. Following decades of public and community activism and service, this will be Rose’s first political race.

“Texas is an easy place to love,” says Rose. “You look around and you see a state that has so much promise: the best people, great cities, a thriving economy and a stunning landscape. But, we are not even close to our full potential. It’s easy to tell my generation to wait. Wait for tomorrow, wait until you’re older, wait for your turn. But while we wait, we continue to let kids go without food, allow millions to have inadequate health insurance, let our environment be spoiled, and allow for countless other hardships that are frankly beneath our dignity and honor. We can make Texas better, we can make Texas even prouder, but we have to start now.”

Rose is currently a proud member of the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, the Harris County Democratic Lawyers Association, Houston Trial Lawyers Association, the University of Houston Law Center Apprenticeship Program, the Anti-Defamation League’s Glass Leadership and has chaired numerous charity events in Houston. He also works with Interfaith Ministries AniMeals program that helps elderly individuals and couples care for their pets. Rose is a passionate advocate for the people, and neighborhoods of Houston.

“I am going to fight for local Houston issues and local Houston concerns in Austin,” says Rose.

Rose graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a Bachelor’s degree in History and went on to receive a JD as well as an MBA from the University of Houston on a full academic scholarship, and he recently completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Law from Tulane University.

Rose has the unwavering support of his wife, Laura Max Rose. Laura works as the Director of Congregation Shma Koleinu, Houston’s newest Jewish congregation, where she and Ben are both members.  Ben and Laura were recently married in March of 2015, and they currently reside in Southhampton.
