Representative Ed Thompson serves the 29th District in the Texas House of Representatives. District 29 encompasses the northern portion of Brazoria County that includes Pearland, Alvin, Manvel, Brookside Village, Hillcrest, Iowa Colony, and Liverpool. Representative Thompson ran unopposed in the 2014 November election and was re-elected to his seat for the 84th Texas Legislature.
Representative Thompson serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Land and Resource Management, and was appointed to his second term on the House Environmental Regulation Committee. The Land and Resource Management Committee has jurisdiction over public lands, the power of eminent domain, annexation, zoning, and other governmental regulation of land use. The Committee on Environmental Regulation has oversight of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and issues relating to pollution and waste disposal.
During the 83rd Legislature, Representative Thompson successfully passed eleven of the fifteen bills he filed, including measures to ensure fair dealings in interactions between Texas sports officials and the University Interscholastic League, grant counties the authority to recover unreturned library items and fines, and change the Texas Election Code to reduce the cost of elections to individual counties.
A graduate of the University of Houston with a BBA in Finance, Ed is a devoted husband to his wife Freddie, dedicated father to his two children, and loving grandfather to his four grandchildren. The Thompson family attends Sagemont Church in Houston.
