Larry Gonzales - Republican (Incumbent)
Larry Gonzales is the Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for House District 52, serving his third term in office. HD 52 is contained completely within Williamson County and includes Round Rock, Hutto, Taylor, and parts of Georgetown.
Rep. Gonzales is a 20-year resident of HD 52, having worked for members of the Texas House, the Lt. Governor of Texas, the Texas Attorney General, and as Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Texas State University System.
Rep. Gonzales is a 1993 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in Government and a 2014 graduate of Texas State University having earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA).
Representative Gonzales serves on the House Appropriations Committee, and was selected to serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Articles 6, 7 and 8, appropriating funds for 42 state agencies. He was also appointed to serve as a House Budget Conferee, one of just 5 Texas House Members working with 5 members of the Texas Senate to write the final version of 2016-2017, $209.4 billion state budget.
In 2014, Gonzales accepted a four year appointment from Texas House Speaker Joe Straus to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission. Having served the first two years, Gonzales was then appointed to serve as Chairman of that Commission for 2016-2017.
Chairman Gonzales also served on the Select Committee on General Revenue Dedicated Accounts in 2012 and the Select Committee on Redistricting in 2013.
Larry and his wife of 21 years, Marie, herself a 1990 graduate of Round Rock High School, have resided together in Round Rock since 1996, where she is employed by the RRISD serving as Associate Principal at McNeil High School. Their two children, ages 14 and 16, are enrolled at Round Rock High School.
In addition, Larry is the owner of a graphic design and communications company.
Larry was raised in Alvin, Texas, where his parents have served as pastors for over 30 years and as chaplains in the Alvin Police Department for 11 years. His father, Lazarus Gonzales, Jr., earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1965, and was employed at Johnson Space Center in Houston for over 43 years.
