Director of Outreach
Over the past decade, conservative Texas politics have featured a series of inspirational leaders with one thing in common: Jonathon McClellan. He has shown a real knack for being where the action is, from Rick Perry’s presence at the birth of the Texas TEA Party to Ted Cruz’s meteoric rise from the Texas Attorney General’s office to the U.S. Senate to a presidential campaign. Along the way, he has built an unmatched grassroots network across the state and nation and developed a firm grasp of what moves public perception.
Jonathon joined the Public Blueprint team in 2016 after serving as Regional Political Director for Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign. Working from his Texas base, Jonathon managed the upstart candidate’s political operations in key battleground states including Iowa and South Carolina.
The Baylor graduate’s relationship with Cruz stretches back to 2012 when McClellan’s grassroots expertise and organizing skills played a key role in one of the biggest upsets in Texas political history. When McClellan joined the Cruz team as Political Director, the candidate was polling at 2%, but ended up winning a Republican primary runoff by 14 points and the general election by 16 points.
After the election, he continued on Team Cruz, splitting time between his responsibilities as State Outreach Director for the federal office and the Jobs Growth and Freedom Fund PAC.
McClellan also has a rare combination of experience and deep connections in the executive, legislative and judicial branches of Texas government, having served on Rick Perry’s 2010 Gubernatorial reelection campaign; Representative Wayne Christian’s staff (as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff); and on Texas Supreme Court Justice Dale Wainwright’s team.
Jonathon and his wife, Sarah, make their home in Houston with their daughter. When not building effective coalitions for his Public Blueprint clients, Jonathon enjoys traveling, Baylor football games, and barbecuing on his Big Green Egg.
